CHARACTER NAME: Mokuba Kaiba
FANDOM: Yuugiou anime
CHRONOLOGY: Battle City, shortly before getting kidnapped by Malik
CLASS: Neutral Snarky, hero sidekick
BACKGROUND:
Mokuba's mother died in childbirth, and his father died in a car accident 3 years later. Mokuba and his brother Seto spent 2 years in an orphanage before being adopted by Gozaburo Kaiba, a millionaire arms manufacturer [and owner of Kaiba Corporation], who was also a chess champion. Mokuba's brother beat him at chess, so he adopted them. Mokuba wasn't all that happy to be adopted. He was separated from his brother, who was forced to study without pause. Mokuba slipped him Duel Monster cards in textbooks and did his best to try and keep his brother happy. It didn't really work, as his brother managed to go quite insane.
When he was 10, Seto turned 15 and was given a challenge from Gozaburo. He had to take seed money and increase it a ridiculous amount of times. He came to the conclusion that the only way to do this was to get controlling stock in Kaiba Corporation. He used Mokuba as a pawn by making it look like he had completely cut himself off from his brother. As Mokuba had 2% of stocks, this lured Gozaburo into a false sense of security over keeping hold of 49%. He assumed Seto wouldn't get it. He was not counting on Mokuba's intense loyalty to his brother, so he lost control of the company and had a heart attack and died.
Seto turned the company into a games and technology company, specializing in holo-technology for use in games. Several months after this, Seto got his heart shattered by Yuugi in a punishment game. This left Mokuba, as Vice President, in charge of Kaiba Corporation and in the perfect place to get kidnapped by people trying to take over Kaiba Corporation and get control of the holo-technology. He ended up getting his soul sealed into a Duel Monsters card and being used as an item of blackmail against Seto. This worked, Seto got his soul sealed, and they had to be rescued by Yuugi and his magic goo-gaw. They were brought back from being soulless zombies, and there was hugging.
Following this, Seto got stuck in a computer game created by underlings who wanted to take over the company, and Mokuba had to get Yuugi and help save him. This involved dressing in drag as one of the characters in the game was a princess made to look like him because the underlings were QUITE CREEPY. While dressed like a pretty princess, Mokuba was brought to where his brother was and was able to untie him and get him Duel Monsters with which to fight off the bad guys. In the resulting boss fight, he sacrificed himself to save Seto, which made his brother go insanely angry and destroy the bad guys so they were killed inside the computer. Because the good guys won, everyone who died came back. Seto was uncharacteristically happy to see his brother again, and there was hugging.
Some more time passed, and Seto was manipulated into designing a gigantic card game tournament. Mokuba was in charge of some design details, and got to be the main referee. As he's 11, we would assume that he can be bought off with candy and video games, but he's very serious about it, running around and pouncing on cheaters he finds with a loud blow of his whistle. All of this running around, however, leaves him prime bait for another kidnapping. Which happens shortly AFTER he is dragged to the City.
PERSONALITY:
Mokuba is an 11 year old boy who has had a large number of serious things happen to him, causing emotional trauma. His mother and father are dead. His adopted father died. He spent a few years at an orphanage, sometimes being bullied. The only constant in his life has been his older brother. He watched as his beloved big brother was driven insane and him pushed away.
At heart, he is an insecure young boy. He clings to his brother, and when separated he is very quiet and unsure. He considers himself the cause of his mother's death, and feels that in some ways he has held his brother back. Seto is incredibly smart, and was a highly desirable adoptee. He would not leave Mokuba behind, and this kept him from being adopted. Mokuba is aware of this, and aware of all of the things that Seto has done to take care of him.
On top of this, Mokuba is cocky. Even when insecure, he has developed the bossy persona so that he rarely shows his insecurities in private, and never in public [public being to anyone other than his brother]. He enjoys ordering around the subordinates at Kaiba Corporation - especially as he is aware that he is a child and they are adults.
The cockiness also comes from the care he has always gotten from his brother. He has always been taken care of, there is an expectation that there will always be someone there for him. He is aware that Seto would do anything for him, and has no problem manipulating this. He would never ask for something completely out of proportion, but will use his influence to get social concessions out of his brother.
He likes being in a position of control, and will do whatever he can to make sure he's in that role. He will take charge of things that are out of his league and age range, including the planning and refereeing of a large-scale tournament. When that control is taken from him, his first instinct is to scream for his brother. He will do his best to get out of the bad situation, but if it proves too much for him, he loses all confidence. When reunited with his brother after a kidnapping, he is very clingy and needs much assurance.
POWER: Mokuba has his referee whistle. Blowing it will cause things to stop for just long enough for him to get a head start. This is not always helpful, however, as he is also a magnet for kidnapping attempts.

COMMUNITY POST (FIRST PERSON) SAMPLE:
[Sound comes on and for a long moment all that can be heard is traffic and passing conversations. Whoever has turned on the comm is either not aware that it's on, or is being very careful.]
[When the voice comes on, if is directly addressing the comm. It is a boy's voice, speaking in an awkward but understandable mix of Japanese and English. While defiant and angry, this is also a voice that is at least halfway to tears.]
All right. Where are you? Where have you brought me? Where's Niisama? I haven't figured out how to make this call him yet, but I will! And when Niisama finds out that I was kidnapped he'll buy this whole city and then you'll be sorry!
[The boy continues ranting, voice lapsing into pure Japanese, although the tone of voice leaves little doubt that he's voicing dire threats against whoever brought him here, and perhaps their pet fish as well. During this rant, he - most likely by accident - triggers visual. While he is gesticulating wildly, he can be made out as a dark haired boy, and the area is recognizable as near the porter building.]
[After a few moments and some more insults in Japanese that lapse back into the English mix, he pulls the comm close to address it directly again. Visually, it is even more obvious that he's holding his tough act together by a thread.]
When you want to tell me what ransom you're looking for, I'll know how hard to kick you. You aren't getting anything out of me, and even if you have a GPS on this thing, I'll stay away from you. This isn't the first time I've been kidnapped and I'm an expert at getting away!
LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
The room was like a cross between Star Trek and one of Niisama's labs. Plus, a voice had talked to him from nowhere! It was totally awesome and made him want to figure out how it worked. Then he could tell Niisama, and Niisama would be proud of him. Which was the way the world should work.
Of course, real life was never that simple, and even the most patient - for him - examination couldn't show him anything at or below his eye level, except some pamphlet written in English. Which, now he thought of it, was the language that the voice had been speaking. It was far too high level of the language for him to understand, although he prided himself that he could speak English far better than any other 11 year old he knew.
Of course, that wasn't really saying much.
At any rate, pamphlet in English, and some walls and the platform he'd arrived on as if he were beaming in. He scrambled at the walls, but there was nothing for him to catch hold of, so he couldn't climb them to go looking for hidden vent panels where cameras and speakers and microphones could be. He glared at the walls. How dare they defy him! He gave them a kick.
That hurt. And in the end it didn't address the main problem, which was that this obviously wasn't Domino anymore. The pamphlet wouldn't be in English if it was still Domino.
And that meant that he'd been kidnapped again, somehow, and that Niisama wasn't there to impress. This was troubling on many levels, not the least of which was RAGE RAGE WHERE WAS HE AND WHERE WAS NIISAMA RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES AND HAVE A TANTRUM!
Which he, of course, did not act on, because he was very mature and 11 years old. The important thing was to figure out where he was, and get home to Niisama. This in mind, he scoured the room for anything that could be used as a weapon to defend himself - nothing, predictably - and to carefully peek out the door to look for guards.
That there were none was unexpected, but a welcome change from the norm of kidnappings. It meant that he could make a break for the outside and maybe even get there before the kidnappers caught on.
Which was what happened, because his plan was brilliant. As usual.
He was in the middle of a city, and all the talk he could hear around him was in English. How had he been knocked out long enough to be brought to America? He didn't think he'd been knocked out at all, but he must have been! Niisama would have known what was going on from the time the voice spoke to him inside, but Niisama knew everything, so that didn't help Mokuba any. He would just have to figure out what was going on for himself, so he could get home.
He chose a direction at random and started walking, doing his best to not be noticeable. As it was a city, he scowled and stalked along like he owned it. Had it been Domino, he would have, so it wasn't a hard thing to manage. Despite all his training and education, though, it was disconcerting to hear everyone around him speaking English. Usually, Niisama was with him so he could find out what was being said if he really wanted to. And usually they had a hotel, so there was somewhere to go and hide if it got to be too much. As it was, he jumped a little every time someone was too close and completely blew his cover.
Niisama would NOT be proud, and Mokuba was annoyed with himself.
